KBC Verzekeringen verkoopt ook rookmelders via de website kbcpreventieshop.be. Om kijkers te sensibiliseren rond brandpreventie, maakten we dit filmpje naar analogie met een eerder gemaakte spot 'veilig met vakantie'. We werkten met dezelfde acteurs en in hetzelfde retro décor. "Sodemat is de materiaaldienst van Eiffage Benelux". Als je het zo leest op de website van Eiffage, klinkt het een beetje oneerbiedig, maar ondertussen heb ik wel geleerd dat "materiaal" in de context van bouwondernemingen niet om mee te lachen is. Sodemat vroeg me een video te maken over hun expertise. Toen we het verhaaltje bedachten voor de videochat toepassing van KBC, dacht ik dat ik wel opgewassen was tegen een stel jonge kinderen op een set. Maar de avond na de opname was ik uitgeteld. Net als de mama's van de kinderen, die hen heel de tijd hadden liggen enthousiasmeren. En de kids zelf? Die lagen al te slapen in de auto op de terugweg naar huis.

Wie dat wil, en voldoende business cards heeft, kan z'n hele week vullen met netwerken. Er zijn hele sjieke netwerk events, hele formele, en hele laagdrempelige. Open Coffee hoort tot die laatste categorie. Omdat de koffie er lekker is en omdat ik er ondertussen enkele mensen ken, ga ik er soms eens langs. Meestal zonder camera en met enkele business cards. KBC Upcycling Challenge

ARTEXIS

The jury of the Belgian francophone business and finance magazine Trends-Tendances has named Eric Everard 'Manager of the Year 2012'. Eric Everard is the CEO of Artexis and this video presentation was recorded two weeks before the official announcement was made. Eric has a sparkling way of presenting and although English is not his native language, he manages to talk us through a series of numbers, facts and figures in a very convincing way. The presentation was recorded with one Canon 7D and one Sony HD CAM. We used one prompter and two green keys. Graphics had to be in line with the printed media launched in jan 2013. The toughest part was to get my hands on the B-roll and to integrate it into the video clip without feeling that it came from lots of different sources.

THERCON

Thercon is offering a highly efficient indoor climate thanks to a couple of innovative devices. Their heating systems rank amongst the best throughout the world. To give installers a flavor of the new products, Thercon organized a "product launch" in Brussels. What better to treasure a memory of this event than to offer the participants a video afterwards? This video also will make the non participants very jealous!

TUINVROUW VAN NATURE

What is it with gardens? Personally I don't connect to anything that's green and outside while raining, but on another level gardening got me to connect with a fantastic gardener. José is not a typical mainstream gardener who weeds and weeds, no, she's a gardener who weeds and ... talks. Indeed, half gardener, half philosopher, José is the best of both worlds. She wanted to share with me a personal story. I strongly believe that people no longer buy products or services only because of what it's worth. Saying you're the best simply doesn't work anymore. Show them that you're trustworthy, show them you're flesh and blood... in one word, show them that you're worth their money! I hope this personal video will help José sell her services to new customers.

DE HONINGBEERTJES

How is it possible to keep on smiling with 25 crying babies around you? Tamara told me she's capable of listening 'selective'. And she told me so many other things worth capturing in this small video. Stars of the video are not only Tamara but also the fantastic children in her special house. I wanted to make this video to check the potential of small affordable videos for starter entrepreneurs. 5 hours of shooting, 1 day of editing. BOKIAU INSURANCES

Most insurance companies I know are small, family driven businesses. Bokiau is different. They go back a long long time, and built a solid reputation over the years in Namur, Liège, Ciney and Charleroi. Yet, they do take every case personal and serious. 

In 5 hours time one can only film that much footage. So I was only focussing on the newest and most fancy building of them all, in Namur. That's where we invited all interviewees and that's where we filmed all A-Roll and B-Roll. They did want to end with all employees in one image. We came up with a budget approach for that final bit: a photo-mosaic.

ISOFOAM

This job promised to be a tough one, because the product we were trying to promote - floor and ceiling insulation - is applied in a very thin spray on, indeed, the floor or the ceiling. This spray causes the room to be almost inaccessible to any camera or capturing device during the most interesting part: the action of the spraying itself!

We focused mainly on testimonials of satisfied customers. We also included an outside professional.

The hardest part about this job? Finding an architect who wanted to testify that this product really makes a difference. In Belgium, architects, like doctors and pharmacists, are prohibited to make publicity for any given product or service.

Our client was mainly unavailable during the preparation, the scripting phase and even the shoot because there was so much going on in their growing company. They basically gave us 'carte blanche'. I remember having a hard time to get them to send me the logo of their company to include it into the graphics.

I liked the concept and the way we got this project done however. Johan did a splendid job as both account manager and interviewer. He was also very persuasive in trying to get an architect on board. I did all of the shooting with my Canon 7D, and concluded the edit on my Macbook Pro. A two men crew and a small budget can sometimes be as effective as having ten people on the set...

PORTRAIT CEO MSI

This one was shot in Massachusettes, US, right after a three days event of MSI (Mobility Services International). We were asked to portrait the CEO  of MSI in a setting outside of the office. In a rather unusual approach we followed him a day on his boat and managed to see a relationship between fishing (his passion) and his company. It turned out to be very difficult to get a grip on a CEO (on any CEO) the day after a major event. Have to remember that next time when I want to schedule such a day out on the ocean. THERCON

What a fun job to do! Thercon wanted us to make 6 clips, on 6 different locations, of their new heating systems. One of those locations was in Schiermonnikoog, an island high up north in Holland. That day of shooting was basically a day of transport. We sat for almost 7 hours in a car, and we did some 4 hours of shooting on the island in total. Our 2 men crew (Johan, account manager, and me being cameraman, director and editor) was this time extended by one Thercon technician and one bailiff to measure all of the elements that would finally proof that the Thercon heating system is really worth buying.

REAL ESTATE TONGEREN

I ran into a real estate agent during a workshop on mac osx. Several weeks later, he contacted me to make a 2 minute clip on a model of an apartment he was willing to put on the market. Actually, he wanted to sell 20 such apartments. Rather than inviting a bunch of people to stroll through a 100 square meter apartment he wanted to bring them together in a business environment where he could work to create a long-lasting memory of whaws and ohhs around some visuals of the apartment. This video clip was one of the means to persuade people to buy property, along with a 3D graphic animation and some still pictures that hung up the wall. I shot this one on my Canon 7 D, edited on my final cut pro at home.

Norvell Jefferson asked me to help them direct a set of low budget tutorial videos for Philips. Every clip explains a technical topic for new users of a Philips flat screen tv. Instead of consulting a manual consumers can access these short clips from the build-in tutorial.

PHILIPS

Philips launched their 2010 model 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000 and 9000 series of flat screen tv's with a set of video tutorials. Every model had around 10 topics to be addressed so we had to put together a total of 50 clips. That's in one language version only! The presenter is someone from Philips. Advantage: he knows all of the tv technicalities and thus knows what he talks about. Disadvantage: he has no experience whatsoever with presenting a video. With no more than two shooting days, there really was no room for smalltalk on the set. 

We shot these tutorials with two Canon 7D's simultaneously. Basically the ones directing were also the ones shooting and handling the cameras while we had one extra sound engineer to make sure that the sound - always a hassle with these HDSLRs - was crisp, clear and, above all, in sync with the video.

LIEFMANS BREWERY

Liefmans is one of the cult breweries of the great Belgian beer country. Liefmans' distinctive flavors derive from the process of mixed fermentation, in open vessels, a blending of young and old beers and bottle-aging in the cellars at Oudenaarde. 

To promote a new summer beer for women, Liefmans on the rocks, the brewery focused on billboards, a campaign together with Hair Stylist Kreatos and, last but not least, a catchy promo with two funny cars.

Fonds Verhelst wishes to help raise awareness of responsible alcohol consumption amongst all AB Inbev employees. This video showcases some situations where alertness is of the utmost importance. The video is only a tool to make people think 'where do I draw the line' and to raise a discussion. The clip was shown to all employees at AB Inbev and followed by a debate around alcohol consumption at work.

JANSSEN PHARMACEUTICA

Janssen Pharmaceutica has been a pillar in the global Johnson&Johnson family for many years. I had done some 3 years of working as a director for a lot of audiovisual projects on the Janssen Pharmaceutica premises, when this job came along. Norvell Jefferson - having a long time relationship with Janssen Pharmaceutica as their preferred video production company - was asked to make a documentary 'from molecule to medicine' for Johnson&Johnson. This turned out to be a major thing, with a lot of 3D animation. The client wanted to 'dive' into the human body and have a look at how medicines can attack cancer cells. Mainly their goal was to explain why developing a new drug costs an enormous amount of money. Norvell Jefferson shot this video in full HD in pharmaceutical plants in Beerse and Geel, Belgium. For the 3D animations we worked together with an Amsterdam based company where a biologist works in team with a graphic designer. I was asked to do the production follow up, which involved a lot of commuting between Belgium and Holland. The production process lasted 2 months and around 15 people were involved. Out of this movie a second movie was made with additional footage. This second movie dealt with 'the future of medicine', which meant we had to include even more 3D!

Ansell is a global leader in hand protection solutions for a wide range of industrial applications. We tried to picture their gloves as exotic objects designed to protect our hands. Starting from there, the voice over made the link from the studio shoot with its minimal and stylish glove visuals to the industry, where workers actually depend on those gloves for maximum performance.
